Selamat Hari Lahir, Dato’ Shukor Salleh!

Legasi Lagenda wishes national football legend Dato’ Shukor Salleh a happy 75th birthday. May he remain in good health and always be blessed under the protection of Allah SWT.
Shukor’s football career began in 1966 when he was called up to join the Penang youth squad to compete for the Burnley Cup. Penang and Selangor were declared joint champions that year after a 2-2 draw in the final round. Playing with the senior team, Shukor won the Malaysia Cup in 1974.
Shukor has given a lot towards Malaysian football. In 2021, he was inducted into the FIFA Century Club after an official count of 163 caps with Harimau Malaya from 1970 to 1981. According to FIFA’s list, he held the second highest number of caps in Malaysia below Datuk Wira Soh Chin Ann.
As a legendary player, Shukor played with Harimau Malaya in their golden era. His achievements include winning the bronze medal at the 1974 Asian Games, winning the Merdeka Tournament four times (1973, 1974, 1976, 1979), bringing home the gold medal from the 1977 & 1979 SEA Games and many more.
A momentous occasion for Shukor was certainly qualifying for the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. After placing first in Group B, Malaysia met South Korea in the final match, where Malaysia won 2-1. However, his dream of playing on the Olympic stage was squashed after the Malaysian government decided to boycott the Games as a protest against Russia’s invasion of Afghanistan.
The story of his journey and sacrifices have been immortalised in our first publication, DATO’ SHUKOR SALLEH – JENERAL PADANG.
In celebration of his birthday, Dato’ Shukor Salleh – Jeneral Padang is currently on promo for only RM145 throughout the month of December.
