Salam Takziah – Khalid Ali

KHALID ALI (1957 – 2024)

KHALID ALI (1957 – 2024)

Legasi Lagenda wishes to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late national football legend, Khalid Ali, who passed away earlier this afternoon after a nearly year-long battle with lung cancer.

Allahyarham donned the Harimau Malaya jersey from 1977 to 1985 and was one of the national team’s key players when they qualified for the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games.

During that time, Khalid completed the midfield trio alongside Shukor Salleh and Barki Ibni. After being moved from his position in defence by head coach Karl Weigang, he emerged as Malaysia’s top scorer with six goals throughout the Pre-Olympic tournament.

With Selangor, Khalid was champion of the 1984 Malaysian League and has won the Malaysia Cup four times – 1976, 1978, 1979, and 1984.

When visiting him a couple of months ago, Khalid was still excited to talk about his experiences on the pitch. His love for football was evident.

We hope that all of Khalid Ali’s sacrifices and successes will always be remembered and become an inspiration for future generations. Let us all pray that his soul is showered with Allah SWT’s blessings and for him to be placed among the believers.
