Meraikan 100 tahun Piala Malaysia – Piala Malaya 1962 & 1963
Buat pertama kali sejak 1958, Pulau Pinang berjaya memasuki final Piala Malaya. Yaacob Syed, Setiausaha Persatuan Bola Sepak Pulau Pinang (FAP), memberitahu wartawan bahawa pasukanya yakin mengatasi juara bertahan Selangor.
M. Kupan menjaringkan gol Pulau Pinang seawal minit ke-5.

Celebrating 100 Years of the Malaysia Cup – Malaya Cup 1962 & 1963
For the first time since 1958, Penang reached the Malaya Cup final. Yaacob Syed, secretary of the Football Association of Penang (FAP), told newspapers that the team was confident to win over defending champions Selangor. The high comes from destroying Kelantan in the semi-finals, winning both matches 7–1 and 6–1, resulting in a total of 51 goals in eight matches.
Selangor and Penang both pounced to attack in the final match. However, both teams caught on to each other’s strategies and held up a strong defence. After 60 minutes of a scoreless match, Stan Gabrielle raced to the net and scored Selangor’s sole but winning goal. Despite not taking the crown, Penang’s fighting spirit did not go unnoticed.
1962 also saw the inaugural edition of the Burnley Cup, where Selangor emerged as champions as well by defeating Perak 4 – 2. Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) was awarded the Burnley Cup from the English Football Association through coach Choo Seng Quee, who underwent coaching courses at Burnley FC and Sheffield FC. The Cup was to be contested for a youth tournament.
Penang came back with a vengeance in 1963 where they met Selangor again in the Malaya Cup final. On the other hand, Selangor was on a mission to retain the championship and strengthen their form as a football giant.
This final match proved more exciting than its predecessor when M. Kupan scored Penang’s first goal in the 5th minute. Selangor’s Abdul Ghani equalised a minute later and scored once again in the 14th minute. 10 minutes later, it was Penang’s turn to even the score as Pang Siang Hock stormed into the goal with the ball.
The teams were 2–2 at half time. After a goal attempt by Selangor, Penang goalkeeper Yeap Kim Hock miskicked the ball and it headed straight to Arthur Koh who was just outside of the penalty box. Surprised but focused, Koh used his head to knock the ball right into the net in the 54th minute. It was the luck Selangor needed to regain their confidence, which led to three more goals – by Abdul Ghani (57’, 75’) and Stan Gabrielle (87’). Selangor emerged as champions once again, their third in a row.
