Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! – Harimau Malaya v Jerman Barat
Pada hari ini 27hb Ogos dalam tahun 1972, pasukan bola sepak Malaysia mencipta sejarah apabila turun menentang pasukan tuan rumah, Jerman Barat dalam perlawanan pembukaan Sukan Olimpik Munich’72.
Penonton yang memenuhi Olympic Stadium turut memberi sokongan kepada pasukan negara yang berjaya mengikat pasukan tuan rumah 0-0 pada separuh masa pertama. Walau bagaimanapun gawang pasukan kebangsaan ditembusi sebanyak tiga kali di separuh masa kedua. Malaysia tewas 0-3.
Pasukan Harimau Malaya ini di bawah kendalian jurulatih Jalil Che Din, manakala Datuk Seri Harun Idris merupakan pengurus pasukan yang dibantu oleh Dato’ Peter Velappan.
Satu-satunya pasukan bola sepak negara yang pernah beraksi di pentas Olimpik terdiri daripada:

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! – Harimau Malaya v. West Germany
On this day – August 27 – in 1972, the Malaysian national football team made history when they met hosting nation West Germany for the opening match of the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.
Spectators who filled the Olympic Stadium also gave their support to the national team who managed to keep their opponents from scoring with a 0–0 draw in the first half. However, their goalpost was infiltrated three times in the second half, causing them to lose 0–3.
The Harimau Malaya team in action was under coach Jalil Che Din, while Datuk Seri Harun Idris was the team manager and assisted by Dato’ Peter Velappan.
