3 APRIL 1980: But Adidas Copa Mundial Remeli Junit Menyumbat Gol di Pra-Olimpik

Antara gol yang dijaringkan oleh Remeli semasa memakainya adalah di Kejohanan Pra-Olimpik 1980. Penyerang yang berasal dari Melaka itu berjaya menyumbang dua gol ketika Malaysia membenam Filipina 8–0 46 tahun lalu pada 3 April 1980.

Ini adalah but Adidas Copa Mundial (Piala Dunia dalam bahasa Sepanyol) edisi pertama yang dilancarkan pada tahun 1979 dan direka bentuk untuk Piala Dunia 1982 di Spain.

Pada penghujung tahun 1978, Remeli bersama skuad Malaysia B di bawah kendalian Abdul Rahman Ibrahim, berlatih selama lebih kurang sebulan setengah di Sportschule Hennef (Sports School of Hennef) yang terletak 30km di selatan Cologne, Jerman.

“Kami diberi peluang untuk melawat kilang Adidas. Ada pemain yang membeli jersi dan tracksuit tapi abang tertarik dan minat dengan but ini. Pada masa itu ramai yang memakai La Plata. Abang tak pakai (but Copa Mundial) semasa latihan di sana. Tetapi apabila pulang ke Malaysia, baru mula pakai pada tahun 1979,” Remeli menerangkan semasa penyerahan but tersebut kepada Legasi Lagenda.

Legenda-legenda bola sepak dunia yang turut memakai but Adidas Copa Mundial adalah Diego Maradona, Franz Beckenbauer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge dan Zinedine Zidane.

But Adidas Copa Mundial ini kini berada dalam koleksi arkib kami yang kami telah bawakan bersama pameran kembara Galeri Harimau Malaya dan akan dipamerkan secara tetap.

Remeli Junit’s Adidas Copa Mundial Boots Scores at the Pre-Olympics

From Legasi Lagenda’s archive, we showcase a pair of football boots belonging to Remeli Junit. Now 48 years old, these boots remain in good condition. Among the goals scored by Remeli while wearing them was at the 1980 Pre-Olympic Tournament. The striker from Melaka managed to contribute two goals when Malaysia defeated Philippines 8–0 46 years ago on 3 April 1980.

This first edition of the Adidas Copa Mundial (“World Cup” in Spanish) boots were launched in 1979 and designed for the 1982 World Cup in Spain.

At the end of 1978, Remeli along with the Malaysia B squad under the management of Abdul Rahman Ibrahim, trained for approximately a month and a half at the “Sportschule Hennef” (Sports School of Hennef) located 30km south of Cologne, Germany.

“We were given the opportunity to visit the Adidas factory. There were players who bought jerseys and tracksuits but I was intrigued by these boots. At that time, many people wore La Plata. I didn’t wear [the Copa Mundial boots] during training there and when I returned to Malaysia, I only started wearing them in 1979,” Remeli shared as he handed the boots over to Legasi Lagenda.

World football legends who have also worn Adidas Copa Mundial boots include Diego Maradona, Franz Beckenbauer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Zinedine Zidane.

We displayed these Adidas Copa Mundial boots while touring Galeri Harimau Malaya as a roadshow exhibition. They are now kept in our archive collection to be one day on permanent display.
