Pemakanan dan Kecergasan – Ramuan Tonik Ginseng Tunku

Pemakanan seorang atlet adalah penting dalam menentukan tahap kecergasan mereka.

Sukan bola sepak juga menuntut pemain mempunyai stamina yang tinggi. Ini akan  membolehkan mereka memberi persembahan dengan kecergasan yang tinggi lagi konsisten sepanjang tempoh 90 minit perlawanan.

Pada 25 Ogos 1968, Presiden Persatuan Bola Sepak Malaysia (FAM), Tunku Abdul Rahman, telah menyediakan minuman dengan ramuan ginseng istimewa untuk diberikan kepada para pemain sebelum perlawanan akhir Piala Merdeka. Kata Tunku, ini untuk memberi kelebihan stamina kepada pemain. Malaysia muncul juara dengan mengalahkan Burma 3–0. 

Kisah ini didedahkan oleh Setiausaha FAM pada ketika itu, Kwok Kin Keng, semasa jamuan makan malam meraikan kemenangan pasukan kebangsaan. Kwok Kin Keng dipertanggungjawabkan untuk memberi minuman tersebut hanya kepada pemain Malaysia.

Sekarang, Institut Sukan Negara (ISN) menggalas tanggungjawab untuk memastikan cara pemakanan yang betul diterapkan kepada para atlet.

Pada saingan Kumpulan E, Kelayakan Piala Asia 2023, kelihatan kerjasama FAM-ISN di mana ISN memainkan peranan yang penting memastikan tahap kecergasan yang tinggi setiap pemain Harimau Malaya. Pasukan negara berjaya layak ke Piala Asia 2023 setelah kali terakhir layak secara merit pada tahun 1980.

An athlete’s diet is important in determining their fitness level. 

The sport of football also demands players to have high levels of stamina. This allows them to perform greatly and consistently throughout the full 90 minutes of the match. 

On August 25, 1968, the President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), brewed a special ginseng drink to be given to the Malaysian players before the Merdeka Cup final. Tunku said that it was to increase their stamina. Malaysia emerged as champions, defeating Burma 3-0. 

The story was revealed by then FAM Secretary, Kwok Kin Keng, during a dinner held by Tunku to celebrate the national team’s victory. Kwok Kin Keng himself was responsible for making sure only the Malaysian players were given the drink. 

Now, the National Sports Institute (ISN) bears the responsibility to ensure that athletes are adhering to proper nutrition. 

For the Group E matches of the 2023 Asian Cup Qualifiers, the collaboration between FAM & ISN can be seen as ISN played an important role in ensuring every Harimau Malaya player had a high level of fitness. The national team qualified for the 2023 Asian Cup for the first time on merit since 1980.
