‘Road to Asia’ – Malaysia v Bangladesh

“Saya berharap pemain-pemain saya tidak mengambil mudah menentang mereka,” kata jurulatih pasukan Malaysia, Jalil Che Din, sehari sebelum perlawanan (dipetik daripada The Star, 5 Ogos 1975).

Malaysia mencatatkan kemenangan 3–0 ke atas Bangladesh dalam perlawanan pertama antara kedua-dua negara itu. Perlawanan tersebut dimainkan semasa kejohanan Pestabola Merdeka 1975 yang berlangsung pada 6 Ogos 1975 di Stadium Merdeka. Gol-gol pasukan Malaysia dijaringkan oleh Mokhtar Dahari dan adik-beradik Isa dan Ali Bakar.

Harimau Malaya mempunyai rekod yang baik menentang Bangladesh dengan 6 kali menang, 2 kali seri dan sekali kalah termasuk perlawanan persahabatan.

Kedua-dua pasukan akan berentap sekali lagi pada malam ini dalam saingan Kumpulan E, Kelayakan Piala Asia 2023. Pasukan Harimau Malaya kendalian Kim Pan-gon memburu slot untuk bermain di Piala Asia yang kali terakhir layak secara merit pada tahun 1980.

“I hope my boys do not take it easy against them,” Jalil Che Din, coach of the Malaysian team, said a day before the match (quoted from The Star, August 5, 1975).

Malaysia recorded a 3–0 victory over Bangladesh in their first meet. The match was played during the 1975 Merdeka Tournament, which took place on August 6, 1975. Goals from Malaysia were scored by Mokhtar Dahari, and brothers Isa and Ali Bakar. 

Harimau Malaya has a good record against Bangladesh with six wins, two draws and one loss, including a friendly match. 

The two teams will meet again tonight for their Group E match of the 2023 Asian Cup Qualifiers. Harimau Malaya, under the coaching of Kim Pan-gon, are still hunting for a spot in the Asian Cup, which they last qualified for on merit in 1980.
