Kejohanan Kemerdekaan Vietnam Selatan 1971 – Harimau Malaya muncul juara, penjaga gol Vietnam Selatan patah dua batang gigi
Harimau Malaya di bawah kendalian jurulatih Ghani Minhat, muncul juara di Kejohahan Kemerdekaan Vietnam Selatan pada tahun 1971.
Perlawanan final, Malaysia-Vietnam Selatan, terikat 1-1 setelah tamat 90 minit perlawanan. Perlawanan masih seri setelah waktu tambahan 20 minit dengan tiada jaringan gol. Kedudukan tetap seimbang dalam sepakan penalti, 4-4.
Dengan kedudukan masih sama, dicadangkan sepakan penalti diteruskan. Namun begitu, jurulatih pasukan Vietnam, Lt. Kol. Lao Van Phuoc, dengan semangat kesukanan yang tinggi telah memberikan kemenangan kepada pasukan negara sebagai tanda persahabatan.
Sebelumnya, pasukan Vietnam mendahuli perlawanan pada minit ke-15 melalui sepakan penjaga golnya, Cu Sinh, yang terkena pemain pertahanan Malaysia dan melantun masuk ke gawang gol. Pasukan kebangsaan berjaya menyamakan kedudukan pada minit ke-65 tetapi permainan tercemar dengan insiden yang berlaku tiga minit sebelumnya. Cu Sinh tercedera apabila beliau disepak dengan tidak sengaja di bahagian mulut oleh pemain Malaysia setelah menyelamatkan bola. Penjaga gol itu kehilangan dua batang gigi dan terpaksa di bawa ke hospital.
Barisan Harimau Malaya yang muncul juara terdiri daripada Wong Hee Kok, Ali Osman, Osman Abdullah, Bahwandi Hiralal, Hanafiah Mohsein, Gopal Rada, Wan Zawawi, Henry Koh, Shukor Salleh, Mahadi Yusof, Mohsein Alias, Rahim Abdullah, Yap Eng Kok, Bahrein Khamis, Nik Salleh dan Haron Jusoh.
Awal pagi esok, Harimau Malaya akan menentang pasukan Vietnam dalam Kumpulan G, Pusingan 2 Kelayakan Piala Dunia 2022 / Piala Asia 2023. Sama-sama kita doakan kejayaan buat pasukan kebangsaan.

1971 South Vietnam Independence Tournament – Harimau Malaya emerged victorious while South Vietnamese goalkeeper broke his teeth
Under the tutelage of Coach Ghani Minhat, Harimau Malaysia emerged as champions of the 1971 South Vietname Independence Tournament.
The final match of the tournament, between Malaysia and South Vietnam, was tied at 1–1 after the full 90 minutes. The match was still tied after 20 minutes of extra and no goals scored. Penalty kicks then led to a 4–4 draw.
As a winner could not be announced, the teams were proposed with another penalty kick. However, South Vietnam coach Lt. Col. Lao Van Phuoc decided to give the victory to the Malaysian team as a sign of goodwill.
Early on, South Vietnam was leading the match with a goal scored in the 15th minute. It was through a kick by their goalkeeper Cu Sinh, which hit a Malaysian defender and caused the ball the bounce back into the goal. Malaysia managed to even the score in the 65th minute but the moment was marred by an incident that occurred three minutes before. Cu Sinh was injured when he was accidentally kicked in the mouth by a Malaysian player after saving the ball. The goalkeeper broke two of his teeth and had to be taken to hospital.
