Piala Hoki Dunia 2023: Selamat maju jaya, Speedy Tigers!

All the best to the Malaysian hockey team who will meet the Netherlands tomorrow, January 14, in their first match of the 2023 Men’s FIH World Cup. Malaysia will also meet New Zealand and Chile in Pool C.

Malaysia secured a spot for the 2023 Hockey World Cup after placing first in their group at the 2022 Asia Cup. They continued a successful campaign which ended at the finals, where they left as runners-up. After finishing first in the second round, Malaysia met South Korea to claim victory. Unfortunately, South Korea narrowly edged out the national team with a 2–1 win.

Late last year, the Speedy Tigers emerged as champions of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup for the first time, instilling confidence in the nation for they were ready to take on the World Cup. Razie Rahim, who was the top goalscorer at the Asia Cup with 13, once again took home this achievement with six goals overall.

Malaysia’s best performance at the World Cup remains to be the 1975 edition, where they finished in fourth place.
