Bintang Baharu 1963 – Ibrahim Mydin

Pada keluaran Disember 1963, FAM News mendedahkan seorang pemain muda yang dijangka akan menjadi pemain yang hebat. Beliau ialah Ibrahim Mydin.

Dalam edisi tersebut, antara yang ditulis tentang bintang muda itu termasuk:

“Ibrahim Mydin, 19 tahun, berasal dari Pulau Pinang. Bertubuh kecil tetapi mempunyai kawalan bola yang hebat. Telah dipilih untuk mewakili pasukan belia Malaya pada tahun 1961 dan telah mencapai pelbagai kejayaan sejak itu.”

Antara kejayaan pada usia remaja adalah memenangi pingat gangsa di Sukan Asia 1962 yang berlangsung di Jakarta.

Sambungan tulisan, “Beliau bijak membaca perlawanan dan mempunyai hantaran bola yang luar biasa. Seorang pemain yang serba boleh di sayap atau penyerang. Selalu rajin bergerak dengan atau tanpa bola.”

Sememangnya kehebatan Ibrahim Mydin diakui oleh rakan seangkatan dengannya. Rahim Abdullah, Olimpian 1972, mengatakan Ibrahim merupakan seorang pemain genius. Selain pintar memberi hantaran-hantaran yang tepat, beliau juga bijak mengesan mematahkan gerakan lawan. 

Maestro pemain tengah kebangsaan, Dato’ Shukor Salleh mengakui kebijakan Ibrahim di atas padang dan pintar memperdayakan lawan. Ibrahim juga terkenal dengan nama jolokan “King of Kangkang” kerana mengatasi lawan dengan sepakan bola ke celah kaki. 

Wong Kam Fook, penjaga gol dan Olimpian 1972, masih ingat lagi tugasan pertama beliau dengan skuad kebangsaan di kejohanan Piala Raja Thai 1970 di mana ‘Mamak’ (nama jolokan Ibrahim Mydin) menjadi ketua pasukan pada ketika itu.

Ibrahim Mydin, yang meninggal dunia pada 9 Ogos 2023, telah mengharumkan nama negara di persada dunia. Beliau merupakan kapten pasukan yang memenangi Kejohanan Ulangtahun Jakarta pada tahun 1970 dan turut membantu pasukan merampas kembali kejuaraan Pestabola Merdeka 1968.

Sama-sama kita doakan agar roh Ibrahim Mydin ditempatkan bersama orang-yang beriman. Semoga pengorbanan dan kejayaan beliau terus diingati dan menjadi inspirasi kepada generasi muda dan yang akan datang.

In their December 1963 issue, FAM News announced an “up and coming” player who was expected to become a big name. He was Ibrahim Mydin. 

Among the notes written about the young star included in the edition include:

“Ibrahim Mydin, 19, comes from Penang. A lean and frail looking player but has acquired excellent ball control. Was selected to represent the Malayan Youth in 1961 and since then has earned many honours.”

While in his teens, his successes included winning a bronze medal at the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games. 

The article continues, “He is intelligent and reads the game well. Uncanny in ball distribution. A versatile player who is equally at home as a wing half or inside forward. Is always on the

move with and without the ball.”

Ibrahim Mydin’s talent was acknowledged amongst his peers. 1972 Olympian Rahim Abdullah said that Ibrahim was a genius on the field. In addition to being skillful at giving accurate passes, he was also smart at detecting and interrupting his opponents’ movements. 

National midfield maestro Dato’ Shukor Salleh agrees with Ibrahim’s cunning style and his ability to deceive opponents. Ibrahim was known by the nickname “King of Kangkang” for kicking the ball between his opponents’ legs. 

Wong Kam Fook, former goalkeeper and 1972 Olympian, still remembers his first assignment with the national squad at the 1970 Thai King’s Cup tournament where ‘Mamak’ (Ibrahim Mydin’s nickname) was the team captain at that time.

Ibrahim Mydin, who passed away on 9 August 2023, has helped bring Malaysia’s name on to the world stage. He was team captain when they won the 1970 Jakarta Anniversary Tournament and previously regained the Merdeka Tournament trophy in 1968. 

Praying that Ibrahim Mydin be placed among the faithful, we hope that his sacrifices and successes continue to be remembered and become an inspiration for the younger and future generations.
