#ArkibLegasiLagenda – Menghargai jasa Datuk Wira Soh Chin Ann @ Galeri Harimau Malaya

You can imagine the pride on the face of former captain, Datuk Wira Soh Chin Ann when he had the chance to once again hold the pennant after more than 40 years. This was when he came to visit the ‘Galeri Harimau Malaya’ exhibition at Stadium Hang Tuah, Malacca.

The pennant that was given to the captain of the Taegeuk Warriors team, Chung Hae-won, in exchange with theirs on March 6, 1980 during the final match of the 1980 Olympic Qualifiers is now in our #ArkibLegasiLagenda.

Chin Ann is also pictured here with the tracksuit worn by the national team throughout the tournament.

That night, Harimau Malaya made history when they qualified for the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games after defeating South Korea 2-1 at Merdeka Stadium. However, the national team did not participate in the Games after the Malaysian government decided to boycott because of Russia’s invasion of Afghanistan.

Chin Ann is the only player who was in both Harimau Malaya squads to qualify for the Olympics. The first time the Malaysian football team qualified for the Olympics was the Munich edition in 1972.
