Mohamad Bakar & Namat Abdullah

Kami mempamerkan foto daripada #ArkibLegasiLagenda yang memaparkan permulaan perjalanan dua legenda Harimau Malaya, Dato’ Mohamad Bakar dan Dato’ Namat Abdullah, serta seorang insan yang penting dalam pembentukan Malaysia, Tan Sri Wong Pow Nee.

Kedua-dua mereka mula mewakili pasukan negeri Pulau Pinang di Piala Burnley sebelum diserapkan ke pasukan utama untuk saingan Piala Malaysia. Kehebatan mereka juga dikenal pasti untuk mewakili pasukan negara dalam pasukan remaja dan seterusnya ke skuad Harimau Malaya.

Berkat usaha gigih, dedikasi dan keazaman mereka, kedua-dua legenda bergelar Olimpian setelah beraksi di Sukan Olimpik 1972 di Munich.

Sementara itu, Tan Sri Wong Pow Nee pula merupakan Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang, dan salah seorang ahli Suruhanjaya Cobbold yang dibentuk pada tahun 1962. Suruhanjaya berperanan untuk menentukan pandangan-pandangan orang Sabah dan Sarawak serta mengesyorkan cadangan untuk mengasaskan Malaysia, terdiri daripada Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak dan Singapura.

Foto ini diambil pada tahun 1966 semasa penyampaian cenderamata oleh Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang ketika itu, Tan Sri Wong Pow Nee, setelah selesai perlawanan bola sepak antara pasukan Melayu Pulau Pinang dan Melayu Perak yang berkesudahan 1–1.

Today we share a photo from #ArkibLegasiLagenda showing the beginning of the journey of two Harimau Malaya legends, Dato’ Mohamad Bakar and Dato’ Namat Abdullah, as well as an important person in the formation of Malaysia, Tan Sri Wong Pow Nee.

Both of them started representing Penang in the Burnley Cup before being selected to join the Malaysia Cup team. Their talent was also recognised as they later joined the national youth team before Harimau Malaya’s senior squad.

Due to their hard work, dedication and determination, both legends became Olympians after competing in the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, Tan Sri Wong Pow Nee was the Chief Minister of Penang and one of the members of the Cobbold Commission that was formed in 1962. The commission was responsible for determining the views of the people of Sabah and Sarawak and recommending proposals to establish Malaysia, consisting of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore.

This photo was taken in 1966, with then Chief Minister of Penang, Tan Sri Wong Pow Nee presenting gifts after a football match between the Penang Malays and the Perak Malays, which ended in 1-1.
