Selamat Hari Lahir ke-70, Bakri Ibni!

Happy 70th Birthday, Bakri Ibni
Legasi Lagenda wishes national football legend Bakri Ibni a happy 70th birthday!
Born in Perlis, Bakri Ibni began representing the state for the youth tournament Burnley Cup in 1973 and joined the senior team two years later. With the Malaysian national team, Bakri has played at the Asian Games, SEA Games, Merdeka Tournament, and the Olympic Qualifiers among many other international tournaments.
Harimau Malaya fans surely remember the historic moment where Bakri was in action on the night of April 6, 1980.
Part of the 1980 Pre-Olympic squad, Bakri managed to score during the final match of the tournament against South Korea at the Merdeka Stadium. In the 13th minute, Bakri gave Malaysia their first goal and he names it the most meaningful goal in his football career.
A low cross from Hassan Sani, missed by both James Wong and Khalid Ali, led to Bakri securing the ball after sprinting from midfield and shoot it past South Korea’s goalkeeper. Malaysia’s second goal was scored by James Wong. After winning 2–1, Malaysia qualified for the 1980 Olympic Games. However, the Malaysian government had already decided to boycott the Games due to Russia’s invasion in Afghanistan.
On this day, we pray that Bakri will always be in the mercy of Allah SWT, for his matters to be eased, and for him to continuously be blessed with good health.
We thank the legend for all his sacrifices and successes, in hopes that they will become inspiration to the younger and future generations.
