Amri Yahyah was called up by Coach Allan Harris once again to join the U-23 team selection that would represent the country at the 2003 Vietnam SEA Games. In November, Amri and 23 other players went on a Malaysian U-23 Australian Tour as preparation. He was then chosen to join the SEA Games squad that went on to win the bronze medal after defeating Myanmar.

In 2004, Amri and the Malaysian national team won third place at the AFF Tiger Cup, which he previously missed due to his injury in 2002. Amri scored two goals in their first match against Timor-Leste that ended 5–0. Furthermore, he continued to perform well with Selangor and they won the Malaysia Cup, FA Cup and Premier League in 2005 and were back in the Malaysian Super League in 2006.

Amri was entrusted as captain of the Selangor team in 2009 and was eager to prove that he could handle the responsibility. He started strong in January at the 2009 Charity Shield Cup, where he scored a goal a mere four minutes into the first match and won his first trophy as captain. Selangor’s victories grew by winning the 2009 FA Cup and topping the Malaysian Super League twice in 2009 and the following year.

2010 also saw Malaysia triumphant at the AFF Suzuki Cup for the first time. Amri scored twice during the tournament. In the final round, the national team defeated Indonesia 4–2 in aggregate. It was Malaysia’s first time in the finals in its inaugural tournament in 1996, where they lost to Thailand 0–1. In the same edition, Zainal Abidin Hassan won Most Valuable Player.

Amri was still a prominent player in Selangor and he began to be sought out by other teams. Selangor had qualified for the 2012 and 2013 AFC Cup before claiming runners-up in the 2013 Super League. After 12 years with the Red Giants, Amri made the decision to join JDT for the 2014 season. Astonishingly enough, JDT emerged as Super League champions, narrowly defeating Selangor at the end, which was repeated in 2015 and 2016.

After playing with JDT for two years, Amri briefly played with Melaka before returning to Selangor (2017–2019). He then joined Sarawak United FC at the start of the 2020 MSL season before making the move to Sabah FC in 2021, where he currently plays.

We wish Amri Yahyah all the best as he shows no sign of slowing despite many twists and turns throughout his football career. We hope his sacrifices and successes become an inspiration for generations to come.
