Malaysia di Separuh Akhir Hoki Piala Dunia Remaja 2013
Malaysia layak ke Hoki Piala Dunia Remaja 2013 setelah muncul sebagai juara Piala Asia Remaja 2012. Pasukan remaja kebangsaan memenangi trofi pertama mereka dengan mengalahkan juara tiga kali Pakistan 2–1 di perlawanan akhir.
Pasukan negara berjuang habis-habisan dengan memastikan dua gol pada separuh masa pertama dan memperkasakan pertahanan mereka semasa separuh masa kedua. Faizal Saari menjaringkan gol pembukaan dalam dua minit pertama perlawanan manakala Syamim Yusof menjaringkan gol kedua 16 minit kemudian.
“Man of the match” dianugerahkan kepada pemain Malaysia, G. Kavin Karthik selepas perlawanan akhir. Faizal Saari pula berkongsi anugerah penjaring terbanyak dengan Yang Jihun dari Korea Selatan (enam gol masing-masing) manakala Hazrul Faiz dianugerahkan Penjaga Gol Terbaik dan Pemain Terbaik kejohanan. Pasukan remaja kebangsaan berharap untuk meneruskan kejayaan mereka di Piala Dunia Remaja pada tahun berikutnya.
Pasukan Malaysia dan Belanda sama-sama mendominasi peringkat kumpulan Piala Dunia Remaja 2013. Malaysia berada dalam Kumpulan D bersama New Zealand, Afrika Selatan dan England. Setelah bermain tanpa kalah dan menduduki tempat pertama dalam kumpulan, Malaysia layak ke suku akhir bersama New Zealand. Namun, Perancis menamatkan rentak kemenangan skuad kebangsaan di separuh akhir, manakala Belanda tewas kepada Jerman.
Malaysia memulakan perlawanan separuh akhir dengan gagah hasil jaringan Azri Hassan pada minit ke-4 tetapi Perancis membuktikan kekuatan mereka pada separuh masa kedua dan menjaringkan gol pada minit ke-63. Pemenang perlawanan tersebut ditentukan dengan sepakan penalti, di mana Perancis meraih kemenangan 3–1.
Berjuang untuk tempat ketiga, Belanda mendapat kejayaan awal dengan gol pada minit ke-3 dan ke-6. Malaysia pula pantas bertindak balas seminit kemudian apabila Zulhairi Hashim menjaringkan gol pertama. Walau bagaimanapun, Belanda berjaya menguasai padang dan menambah lima gol lagi. Malaysia menjaringkan gol kedua pada minit ke-60, juga oleh Zulhairi Hashim, tetapi mereka akhirnya tewas kepada pasukan Belanda yang meraih kemenangan 7–2.
Malaysia juga beraksi di Piala Dunia Remaja pada tahun 2016 dan menduduki tempat ke-11. Mereka layak dengan menduduki tempat ke-5 di Piala Asia Remaja 2015. Malaysia merupakan pasukan kedua terbanyak menjaringkan gol (26) dan Shahril Saabah dinamakan Pemain Terbaik.
Skuad negara telah menempah tempat di Piala Dunia Remaja 2021 yang akan berlangsung dari 24 November – 5 Disember 2021 di India. Mereka berada dalam Kumpulan A bersama Belgium, Chile dan Afrika Selatan. Kami mengucapkan selamat maju jaya! Malaysia juga akan menjadi tuan rumah Piala Dunia Remaja 2023, kali ke-4 untuk negara kita.

Malaysia at the 2013 Hockey Junior World Cup
Malaysia qualified for the 2013 Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup by emerging as champions of the 2012 Junior Asia Cup. They won their first trophy by defeating three-time champions Pakistan 2–1 in the final match.
The national team fought hard by securing both goals in the first half of the match while keeping their defense strong in the second. Faizal Saari scored the opening goal only two minutes into the match and Syamim Yusof scored the second goal 16 minutes later.
Man of the match was awarded to Malaysia’s G. Kavin Karthik after the final. Faizal Saari shared the top scorer’s award with South Korea’s Yang Jihun (six goals each) while Hazrul Faiz was awarded Best Goalkeeper and Best Player of the tournament. They were determined to continue their successful stride at the Junior World Cup the following year.
Malaysia and the Netherlands were equally dominant through the first few rounds of the Junior World Cup. Malaysia was in Pool D with New Zealand, South Africa and England. After unbeaten matches and topping the group, Malaysia qualified for the quarterfinals along with New Zealand. However, France ended the national squad’s winning streak in the semi-finals, while the Netherlands lost to Germany.
Malaysia started the match strong with a goal from Azri Hassan in the 4th minute but France progressively proved their dominance in the second half, scoring in the 63rd minute. The match was decided by a penalty shoot-out, where France claimed victory after 3–1.
As both teams fought for third place, the Netherlands scored an early lead with goals in the 3rd and 6th minute. Malaysia was quick to retaliate a minute later when Zulhairi Hashim scored their first goal. However, the Netherlands dominated the field and added five more goals. Malaysia managed one more goal in the 60th minute, also by Zulhairi Hashim, but it wasn’t enough to catch up. The Netherlands claimed a confident 7–2 victory.
Malaysia also qualified for the 2016 Junior World Cup and placed 11th. They qualified by placing 5th at the 2015 Junior Asia Cup where they were the second-highest scoring team at 26 goals and Shahril Saabah was named Player of the Tournament.
Malaysia has booked a place in the 2021 Junior World Cup which will be held from November 24 – December 5, 2021 in India. They are in Pool A with Belgium, Chile and South Africa. We wish them all the best for a successful tournament. Malaysia has also won the bid to host the 2023 Junior World Cup, the fourth time for our country.
